What the storm really did to your roof
Storm damage on an older roof is easy to miss and easy to argue about. Hail bruises look a lot like normal wear on shingles that have been up for years, and wind can break the seal on a row of tabs without tearing any off. On the steep gables and dormers of older Pontiac homes, much of the roof can’t be seen from the street at all.
We get up there and document it the way an adjuster needs to see it: close-up photos of hail hits with a marker for scale, creased and lifted tabs, broken ridge caps, dented vents, gutters and downspouts, and branches that punctured the roof. We also note what is old wear and not storm damage. An honest scope holds up better.
You get the photos and a written scope of what it would take to repair or replace the damaged areas. You file the claim, your insurer decides coverage, and we can be there when the adjuster comes out. If the claim is approved, we do the work with the same photo record and daily cleanup as any other job. If it isn’t, we can still talk through repair options.

Storm damage we look for
Some of it is obvious. Most of it is not, until it leaks.
Hail bruising
Soft spots and a fractured mat under the surface, often hard to see without getting on the roof.
Granule loss
Hail knocks granules off and exposes the asphalt to the sun, which speeds up aging.
Wind-lifted shingles
Broken seal strips and creased tabs let the next storm peel shingles off.
Flashing & vents
Dented vents, bent flashing and cracked pipe boots open paths for water.
Gutters & siding
Dented gutters and cracked or loose siding are often part of the same storm.
Interior leaks
Ceiling stains or wet insulation after a storm mean water is already getting in.
Your roofer, your adjuster, your decision
An insurance claim involves several people, and it helps to know who handles what. We inspect the roof and document the damage. Your adjuster inspects on behalf of your insurer and makes the coverage decision. You decide whether to file and who does the work.
Our part is the evidence: clear photos of the damage, a written scope of the repair or replacement, and answers to your questions in plain language.
Read your policy, and call your insurer or agent with questions about deductibles and coverage. If the storm damage turns out to be minor, we will tell you, and a simple roof repair may be all you need.

Homeowners across Metro Detroit on how we document the work.
“Kincaide roofing went above and beyond our expectations. Scott (the owner) took pictures of every step and fix he made. They were punctual, thorough and very professional. No B.S. with Scott, the communication was straight forward and gave us briefings every night before they left.”
“Kincaide did a phenomenal job fixing up my garage roof and siding. They also cleaned up the area after so my dog wouldn’t get hurt. Everytime there was any issue found during installation, they provided picture evidence. They also were the best cost when compared to other companies. Highly recommend.”
“Very awesome, professional experience with Kincaide!!! Scott and his crew is wonderful. They do good work, really put things in terms so that people can understand things better. We will definitely be sticking with KINCAIDE!!!”
How storms hit Pontiac and what to check after
Summer hail, strong wind and old trees all leave different marks on a roof.
Pontiac gets the full range of Southeast Michigan storms: summer thunderstorms with hail and straight-line wind, and winter gusts working on shingles that are stiff from the cold. Many older streets have large, mature trees, so falling limbs are a real risk to roofs and gutters.
After a storm, walk around the house. Look for shingles or vent pieces in the yard, dents in gutters and downspouts, limbs on the roof and new stains on the ceilings. Then call for an inspection before you open a claim, so you know what you are reporting.
Hail
Bruised shingles, loose granules and dented metal, often worst on the side facing the storm.
Wind
Lifted and creased tabs, missing ridge caps and torn shingles along rakes and eaves.
Falling limbs
Punctured decking and crushed gutters where old trees drop branches on the house.
