Keeping water away from older foundations
On many older Pontiac homes, the gutters are an afterthought: sectional runs with a seam every few feet, downspouts that empty right next to the foundation, and sizes that were never matched to the roof above them. On a steep roof in a summer downpour, that means water pouring over the front edge, soaking the fascia and splashing against the siding and basement walls.
Older basements tend to be less forgiving of water than newer ones, so where the water goes after it leaves the roof matters. We install seamless gutters formed on site in one continuous run per side, so there are no joints along the length to pull apart. We size them for the roof area and pitch, hang them with hidden hangers, and pitch them toward downspouts that discharge away from the house with extensions where needed.
Under tall maples and oaks, leaves and seed pods fill gutters fast. Guards cut down on how often you have to get on a ladder. We also check the fascia and the roof edge while we are there, because a gutter is only as solid as the wood it hangs on, and the drip edge has to send water into the gutter rather than behind it.

Gutter work for Pontiac homes
Everything that moves water from the roof edge to a safe spot in the yard.
Seamless gutters
One continuous run between corners, with no seams along the length to leak or pull apart.
Downspouts & extensions
Enough downspouts for the roof area, placed so water lands well away from the foundation.
Gutter guards
Covers that keep leaves, seeds and shingle grit out so the gutter keeps flowing between cleanings.
Sizing to the roof
Steep, large or valley-fed roof sections push more water; we size the gutter and outlets to match.
Ice & snow detailing
Solid hangers, the right pitch and ice and water shield at the eaves so winter ice does less harm.
Gutter repairs
Leaking corners, loose hangers and clogged or crushed downspouts fixed when the system is still worth keeping.
Gutters, guards and downspouts, side by side
Not every house needs every option. A ranch with no trees nearby may only need properly sized seamless gutters and a couple of well-placed downspouts. A two-story with oaks and maples over the roof will spend every fall clogging unless it has guards.
During the free inspection we look at the roof pitch and size, where the valleys dump water, the trees overhead and where the yard slopes, then recommend what the house actually needs. You get it in writing with photos of the problem spots, so you can compare it fairly.
If the gutters you have are the right size and still hold their pitch, we’ll say so. Sometimes a few added downspouts, longer extensions or a set of guards solve the problem without new gutters at all. And if the roof itself is near the end of its life, we’ll point that out too, because gutters are best replaced when the new drip edge goes on.
| Option | What it solves | Good fit when |
|---|---|---|
| Seamless guttersOne piece per run | Joints leak | Old gutters are sectional |
| Larger gutter sizeMore capacity | Overflow in storms | Steep or large roof planes |
| Added downspoutsFaster drainage | Water pools at corners | Long runs, one outlet |
| Gutter guardsKeeps debris out | Constant clogs | Trees over the roof |
| Downspout extensionsMoves water away | Wet basement or erosion | Yard slopes to the house |

Trees, downpours and spring thaw
Pontiac gutters have to handle leaves in the fall, ice in the winter and heavy rain in the summer.
Mature trees line many Pontiac streets, especially in the older neighborhoods near downtown and toward Sylvan Lake and Waterford. They drop leaves, twigs and seeds into gutters most of the year. In winter, full gutters freeze and help ice dams form. In spring, snowmelt and rain arrive together, and every downspout has to carry its share.
